The Kingdom of God is described as a place of peace, where the innocent and vulnerable safely coexist with the wild and ravenous predator.
The Mushing Mission Sanctuary seeks to reflect this ideal, by expressing the love of Jesus Christ and providing a healing environment, art/science programs, and therapeutic activities for individuals in need, including, but not limited to, at-risk children, those struggling with physical/emotional/cognitive issues, and veterans. Along with a facility designed to experience nature’s rest, we utilize Animal-Assisted Therapy, working alongside professional therapists and counselors to supplement their work.
By designing and adapting training exercises, we work to build a human-animal bond for our clients both as an aid to their healing and to expose issues, attitudes, and behaviors for their therapists to address. Offering special activities, such as urban mushing, participants can learn the confidence and care involved in controlling a team of dogs, as well as the excitement of being part of the pack.
We search for and rescue certain huskies for the purpose of working with clients to train the dog in preparation for adoption. This program is especially beneficial for veterans needing a companion animal to bring home. Training may include teaching the client to help the dog through its own issues and even special tasks like mushing.
Once we obtain our outreach vehicle we'll go on location for special events where people can meet our animals, especially our wolf ambassadors. With art and science programs centering on wildlife and environmental education, we'll offer presentations and field work to familiarize students with scientific methods and techniques. Our goal is to expose children to the vast possibilities in studying nature and hope to develop a child’s interest in the arts and sciences.
More future plans include Ranch Resurrection, a camp and temporary housing facility at a separate location where residents can care for our animals while working on their issues.
