Every dog owner considers their pet to be special… My Shibah showed me the true meaning of that word. She came along at a time when I was at my lowest. She immediately attached to me when her previous owners found her to be too difficult to handle. Caring for this dog gave me hope and purpose again, and Shibah never left my side for the next 12 years.
Training her was my own training ground. I learned a lot about dogs and their personalities from her. Shibah had the remarkable ability to watch what I was doing and mimic it for a treat. And, like all huskies, she was great with people and kids especially. Although, you did have to be very cautious to protect your food around her. Many a child learned how quickly a hot dog could disappear from their hands with this little thief around.
As for people, she was a gift and an example to me… full of love. Shibah even went to work with me for many years at my job with the rescue mission. She would stay with the homeless clients in the crisis program and offer them much needed comfort. This is why, although she passed away from cancer in 2011, Shibah is included here as the heart and inspiration for this ministry. She will be missed but never forgotten.
