"Sanctuary": A sacred place; An area set aside as a refuge or asylum… For those who are struggling, who are in pain, who need peace, who are seeking somewhere to rest, we hope to be a haven of hope and healing.
The healing benefits for the human-animal bond have been seen time and time again, and there is a reason that dogs have earned the title of "Man's Best Friend". The Mushing Mission Sanctuary focuses on the use of Huskies and Wolfdogs as tools for comfort and education. And, we design exercises as therapeutic aids for counselors and their patients, facilitating Animal-Assisted Therapy. For those in need of peace, encouragement, and comfort, our pack and facility offer a safe place for rest, reflection, and prayer.
Of course, one of our highlight exercises is teaching our clients to work with a team of dogs and experiencing the exhilaration of urban mushing. Communication, confidence, control, and courage are just some of the attributes to be fostered.
We are in our infancy… That means that we are starting small. Currently, we are providing off-premise encounters with our dogs. Once we obtain a variance to operate on premises, our facility will develop into a fully functioning therapy center with exercise/training pens, nature trails with reflection/prayer stops, and a counseling/learning center.
You can help us to connect the paws of our rescues to the hands of those who need help through your prayers, your volunteering, and by contributing to us financially via our GoFundMe campaign, through our Facebook page, or with the PayPal link to the right. THANK YOU!
It is important to acknowledge two non-profits which were immeasurably helpful to me. Howling Woods Farm in Jackson, NJ and The Husky House in Mattawan, NJ. Mike at Howling Woods gave me my first experience with wolf dogs and adopted out Shemiah to me. (Click her picture to read her story.) His wolfdog rescue is one of the foremost places to experience this amazing creatures, and his dogs have appeared in movies and on TV. Visit their site here…
The Husky House rescues members of this breed which can be challenging to those who are unprepared for their stubborn and mischievous nature. They rescued Spirit from a kill shelter in Tennessee and brought him all the way up to New Jersey. (Click Spirit's picture to learn more about his story.) Allowing me to adopt him changed my life. Learn more about them here…
Both of these groups will be indispensable to our own mission and will be a major source of our pack members in the future. Please visit and help them if you can.
